Any number of sample rates, bit depths, formats, and channels can be configured within reason of course. While this has only been tested on the Pi Zero 2 W, it should also work on any of the Pi models that can be used as device mode USB devices.

Other Linux-capable boards that can function in USB device mode can also be used, however some of the steps presented in this guide may need to be modified for that particular board. Kernel 5.

Raspberry Pi OS Lite does not come with a desktop environment. This offers some performance improvement especially on lower power devices like the Pi Zero 2 W. If you are not comfortable working in the Linux command line, or you need a desktop for some other reason, choose the normal Raspberry Pi OS or the Full version. Either should work, though I have only tested the Lite version. Depending on your raspberry pi model, you may want to use the bit version of Raspberry Pi OS.

Next, Choose Storage then select the micro SD card that was inserted. Next, choose the gear icon on the bottom right if you do not see this icon, make sure your Raspberry Pi Imager software is up to date. Safely eject the micro SD card from your host machine, and insert it into the Pi. There are many ways to figure out the IP address of your Pi. I would recommend using a network scanner app to find the IP address of the Pi on your local network.

Navigate to SystemOptions and change Password and Hostname. You can also reconfigure any other settings you need to in raspi-config. When you log back in over SSH, don't forget that you changed your password in Step 3! UAC2Gadget should show up. This is the USB interface. You can optionally use the -L flag instead of -l to list all PCM interfaces. When I tested the default 5. This process was tested on kernel 5. These versions have the audio device correctly show up in Windows, though there are still limitations and bugs.

If you only plan on using Linux as a host, you can probably skip building a new kernel. NOTE: local building is the simplest method, however it is slow. For a faster compile, please see Step 4b. Start a new screen session. This will be helpful since the build process can take a few hours on a Pi, and this will allow you to build the kernel while not being connected via SSH the entire time:. To reattach to the session, use:.

Feel free to change which branch is cloned if a newer branch exists. This will probably take awhile. Now enter the directory and apply the default configuration for the RPi Zero 2 W. If you're using a different Pi with OTG, see this guide for other default configurations:. Next, it's time to configure the kernel. Most likely, you'll just want to change the kernel local version name. There are many other options available as well.

For example, you can enable debug messages for USB gadgets. It's most intuitive to use menuconfig:. You can also check to make sure that the Audio Class 2. Exit menuconfig. Now it's time to build the kernel. Make sure you are in a screen session for this as it can take a few hours to build on a Pi:. Everything should be ready now! The Pi should show up as an available audio interface on the host computer. This method for compiling the Linux kernel is significantly faster than building the kernel locally on the raspberry pi.

I generally use WSL. If you're using a different Pi with OTG, see this guide for other default configurations. Now it's time to build the kernel and modules. Change the -j 8 flag to change how many threads the compiler will use:. Next, we will copy the files to the RPi over WiFi. First, find your RPi's IP address and username and put them in a variable:. Now copy the files from your host to your RPi using rsync. Here are the possible input parameters used to configure the device:.

You only need to specify parameters when starting the module if you need the specific parameter changed from the default value. These parameters will not save on reboot. Using a Windows host can be somewhat buggy depending on which kernel revision that was used for the RPi. RP3A0 is another truly amazing achievement. Why the new power supply? The previous power supply was a re-badged third-party product.

We designed the new one in-house, and as a result it uses much less plastic than the previous model which is great for everyone! The blog post only says that this psu is overkill for the zero2. But how many amps does the zero2w need? Sometimes i connect it to a Motorola Atrix lapdock. Both have no problems powering the zero1w. The lapdock struggles with everything above a Pi2B.

I think the zero2 could work with the lapdock. But would it also work on the 1A USB output of my tv? I notice that this unit has 2.

Any other new features not mentioned in the blog post? Cost reason or board space? Oh, well, a missed opportunity regarding this, but still great upgrade, many thanks for that. Yup, just you the the guy above!

And here it is! You guys are awesome! May the chip shortage not give you any undue grey hear! To me, the whole point of the Zero has been as a cheap replacement for a development Raspberry Pi. We have a colossal number of customers for whom form factor is vital. Come back in 18 months time and we can compare sales figures…. I used to believe technical data to be everything when trying to adopt a banana pi BPI-M2 Zero a few years ago.

Where does the blog post say how much power the zero2w uses? The 2,5A psu is said to be overkill for the zero2w. There have been some good benchmarks of power consumption of the new Zero 2 by folks like Jeff Geerling , who also look at disabling cores to reduce the power budget , and Gareth Halfacree at Hackster. But, if you did want to work the thing harder than the original zero was capable of, then it would have that extra grunt — which would require more power, and it is available if you need it.

Is the raspberry pi open hardware? Are the components widely available or are they only available to the RPi foundation? Also I would like to make a slightly longer version with a USB hub on board. And lastly I would like to make a slightly longer version with a usb hub and an ethernet port and an hdmi usb input chip.

And then republish those new gerber and etc. However our microcontroller board, the Raspberry Pi Pico, is open hardware and design files for that are available. That would really be a question for Retroflag. The decision to stick to the microUSB ports instead of USB-C is compatibility-related, cost-related or something else entirely is the reason? Just wondering about that. Simon had to squeeze things really hard to get everything into the same form factor. Compatibility is important — going to USB C would mean Zero cases would no longer fit, and you could not use a 02 as a drop in replacement for a 0.

Is it because of design issues like space or economics or…? Would the new board run on a standard pc usb like the Zero W, or does it need more power? Unfortunately, the idle current for the Zero 2 W is slightly higher than the original Zero, and powering a Zero from a laptop or TV USB was pretty marginal depending on how it was loaded.

Thanks A. I had hoped for an ethernet port, as a pi with sensors or cameras around the house is easier to setup with PoE than v plus wifi. Will there be a non-W version released at some point?

Although some of them are, for instance see this thread on Twitter where I discuss the Zero Stem shim, which looks like it might well work with the Zero 2. So, all good?

This is really exciting! Will this still have the max SD card capacity of 32GB or will it be able to handle larger cards now? The limit was on the size of the boot partition, not the card itself. But in any case it is no longer applicable to the Zero 2, see the documentation.

This is the best news to wake up to! Outstanding Work! Thanks for pointing out. The Micro USB2. So many years and still no upgrade to 4 lane mipi csi? Unfortunately, adding it to the Zero or others in the Pi range would mean a change to the connector and break a lot of backwards compatibility. It would also be very difficult to route on a PCB the size of the Zero. Rooting can be considered as valid point, but not the connector.

Well done anyway. Just like antenna connector possibility with zero w, after all its for learning and fun CSI-2 is an extremely fast bus, and needs very accurate routing and track lengths to work correctly.

Soldering on to pads is unlikely to be reliable. Congratulations again to all at Raspberry Pi Trading! When things return to something more like normal do you anticipate this board having better availability than the Zero and Zero W that could sometimes be tricky to find even before the current global supply constraint situation? Sounds like a great upgrade to the Pi Zero.

If no, can it at least be run headless with stock Debian? Sounds like a question for the folks at Debian, as we have our own excellent OS that definitely supports Zero 2! External power supply is not an option for me. There have been some good benchmarks of power consumption of the new Zero 2 by folks like Jeff Geerling , who also look at disabling cores to reduce the power budget , as well as Gareth Halfacree at Hackster. This is a very attractive option. I always found the RP Zero perfect as gateway for Bluetooth devices so I was hoping for a successor with the many improvements of Bluetooth 5.

Does Bluetooth 5 come with many improvements? Some of the most interesting improvements are wholly optional, like the long range and high bandwidth PHY modes. Yes there are multiple radical improvement, specially useful on an embedded device, in short: 2x speed, 4x range, 8x data payload, Angle of Arrival AoA and Angle of Departure AoD capabilities, improved service discovery mode and some energy improvement since the power consumption system in ble5 is redesigned To me those are more than enough reason to want having Bluetooth 5 as mandatory requirement on any embedded or IOT device.

Is there new. My Zeros are not running the latest OS. Do I need to upgrade? The quad core is welcome since I can now do screen capture with only Zero, instead of having to do it with RP4. I have been planning to do a project with thePi Zero W. Turning a roary phone into a google assistant. What should I do? Sorry, we stuck with 2. Keeping the new Zero 2 cost down was really important to us!

How about the power consumption? I ask because I want to use it on the go. We recommend an external power supply as the current draw of the Zero 2 is higher than the original Zero. However the minimum size of your power supply will depend on your use case, there have been some good comparisons of power consumption by folks like Jeff Geerling , who also look at disabling cores to reduce the power budget , as well as Gareth Halfacree at Hackster.

I declare Simon Martin to be both an artist, as well as a scientist. Thanks so much for maintaining the same form factor! For that price, it seems to me pretty much a no-brainer that anyone with a project already having a previous Pi zero would just toss in this newer one instead.

Congratulations on solving the issues around upgrading the Pi0. The new PSU is also and interesting addition to the stable. A bit more on power requirements would be welcome. Hi How much power needed in full load heavy cpu benchmark? I mean 5v 2. For battery usage perspective. Thanks for reply. We recommend our own power supply.

However, there have been some good benchmarks of power consumption of the new Zero 2 by folks like Jeff Geerling , who also look at disabling cores to reduce the power budget , as well as Gareth Halfacree at Hackster.

Again, thanks for your work. Congratulations on the Raspberry Pi Zero 2, seems like it would be a really nice upgrade to resource-constrained projects. Imagine jumping into a bowl of raspberries now; imagine the confusion with numbers. Raspberry Pi 02, , no zero two. Thanks for the periodic shot of dopamine. Probably a question for Microsoft rather than us, but it should do?

Looking at their site. NET 6 as Linux Arm binaries, so it should be fine. I found it an incredibly helpful bit of functionality. Fantastic news. Just watched the excellent interview with Eben on the Make: YouTube channel — amazing what you folks are doing at Raspberry Pi, happy 10th anniversary when it comes next year! Great news! I would suggest making sure the OS is up to date, just as a general housekeeping rule, but yes.

Hello, Does this have full support for Device mode? I want to use this and make it into a webcam. Sounds like a question for the folks at BSD rather than us, we have our own excellent operating system which runs perfectly on the new Zero 2. We recommend our own This is a big upgrade for the Zero, but as I explain my first impressions, the original zero still shines in some use-cases.

But beyond that we wanted to maintain the form factor of the original Zero. I see from previous comments that you have no plans for a non-W version, which is a shame. Thinking cap on. What if the wireless chip was removed though — would that theoretically leave enligh space for a discrete RAM chip?

Got mine yesterday Friday and I am very impressed it works well much faster than the original zero. Congratulations on another excellent bit of kit. Great news. Already ordered one.

It seems you fanboys and a bunch of marketing will do the rest. But for anything more than just a keyboard and mouse you might need to use a powered hub.

Is it possible hat if the io holes were scrapped, that you could put the internals of the cm4 into the form of a pi zero? When will Zero 2 model be restocked? I have searched multiple online stores in Asia and all of them are out of stock. When can we expect pi zero w stock in India? We are unable to a make a decision on a couple of our products because of this non-availability. Hello, Thanks for your comment. A member of our Commercial team has contacted you in regards to your question.

- Installing Windows 11 on Raspberry Pi (An Illustrated Guide) – RaspberryTips

Ambitious developers from raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 - raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 Raspberry Raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 - raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 community are always finding a way to run a full desktop version of Windows raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 - raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 Raspberry Pi. Inwe installed a version of Windows 10 onto a Raspberry Pi 4 and it performed admirably, if a little slowly.

This how-to has been updated to include a new, продолжение здесь method which downloads and installs Windows 11 for Raspberry Pi using the Raspberry Pi itself no Windows PC is required.

This new method is easier than installing via a Windows 10 computer, but the trade off is that it is much slower, taking well over an hour sometimes two versus under an hour for the manual via a PC method which we also show below. However, before you begin, please note that this is not an official Microsoft product and the source of the images and software used is from a passionate and vibrant community working together to create this project. The Windows 11 image file is easy to source but there is a process that we have to follow in order to create a valid image which can be used with our Raspberry Pi.

At the time of writing, this project runs surprisingly well see below for more details but has a lot of caveats. Audio via HDMI is also not available but audio via the 3. This did not go as expected. The images were successfully written raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 - raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 the drive, and they did indeed boot, but they failed at the device discovery portion of the setup. After discussing the issue with YouTuber leepspvideoit turned out перейти на страницу our USB 3 caddy was to blame.

So we opted to use an Argon M. This worked the first time, and the added bonus is that our Pi is kept cool. Please complete those steps before moving on. No Windows machines are required to do this! The original method was complex and convoluted, but thanks to WoR member Botspot we now have a largely automated install process that runs completely from the Raspberry Pi 4. Many thanks to leepspvideo for bringing this simpler method to our attention.

There are drawbacks, however. This method takes longer than the manual method shown below which involves using a PC to generate the ISO file. Depending on your Internet connection and whether anything fails which it can, causing you to start againthis method could take an hour or two.

The manual via PC method below should take less than an hour but has more steps and requires a PC. Select the drive that will be used to install Windows 11 then click Next. Click Refresh if none are shown.

Click Next to install Windows 11 to the drive. We do not have to make any changes to this screen. The install process will take some time, possibly up to an hour. Take no action but continue to monitor the output for any errors. There is a chance that the install may fail, if so close the terminal and repeat the previous steps. Once the installation is complete you will see the Next Steps screen.

This screen tells us what to expect when we boot into Windows 11 for the first time. Click on Close. The first boot will take quite some time. Leave the installation to complete and you will soon be presented with the typical Windows 11 setup screens. Follow these screens to complete the installation.

Choose the edition of Windows 11 that you would like. We chose Windows Home and Pro. Click Next. This will trigger a security warning. The command prompt will now fill with text. This is the output of a command that will download the Windows 11 for Arm image, patch it and then prepare an ISO image.

This process may take some time, depending on your Internet connection and the power of your computer. The drive should appear and be ready for use. Please note that the drive will be formatted, and any existing data on the drive will be lost. Open WoR and allow the application to make changes to your computer. Set your preferred language and then click Next. Click Next to move on.

This is also stored locally for future installs. Click on Next to accept the current configuration. Only make changes here if you understand what you are changing. Check the installation overview. Is the correct drive selected? Have you chosen the correct model of Raspberry Pi?

Click Install. The installation process will take around смотрите подробнее minutes for an SSD. MicroSD installations are longer. Connect up your Pi peripherals and power on. Follow the process and your Windows 11 Raspberry Pi is ready for use. Press Esc to exit. Set the resolution by highlighting the option and press Enter. Press F10 to save and then Esc to exit. Press Esc until you reach the first menu.

In our testing, overall performance is decent, in fact it was much better than our Windows 10 install. Boot time was good, longer than Raspberry Pi OS, but nothing major. Feeling more like an Intel N Celeron in general use.

Once the desktop was loaded the overall feel of Windows 11 on Raspberry Raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 - raspberry pi zero 2 w windows 11 was responsive. Windows 11 responded to our input with minimal lag, and moving windows around the screen held up pretty well.

The Edge web browser provided a good browsing experience. Heavy sites such as YouTube proved troublesome due to the lack of a hardware graphics driver which meant our CPU was working harder to render an image.

Videos at p were smooth, P was passable. Going fullscreen caused a large delay, and a number of dropped frames. We ran a brief test to install applications. First we installed the Arduino IDE via the Microsoft Store, and the installation was successful, but did take some time.

The Arduino IDE successfully loaded, and we were able to open one of the included examples to flash to our Arduino Uno board. Nothing was listed in the device manager, so we rebooted and tried again, nothing. This felt counter-intuitive. We then installed the Arduino IDE using a typical x Les Pounder is an associate editor at Tom's Hardware.
